Highlights of Microsoft Ignite 2024

Business applications, AI and the developments highlighted at Microsoft Ignite 2024.

Business application modules and intelligence structures converge in a shared innovation installation.

This article retains its original publication date. The expanded context is reviewed in September 2026; current capabilities should be checked in the linked Microsoft guidance.

01

The announcement in context

Microsoft Ignite 2024 highlighted a growing role for agents, Copilot and AI-assisted development across the Microsoft ecosystem. Power Platform announcements included approaches to planning applications and connecting agents with business processes. Defacto’s original update summarised that direction after the event.

02

Connect the announcement with the work

A new development capability is useful when it helps a team build or improve a meaningful process. Begin with the user journey, records and decisions involved. Ask which part of that work becomes easier and which responsibilities remain with the application owner or delivery team.

03

Evaluate the result, not only the speed of creation

AI-assisted development can change how quickly a prototype appears, but the resulting application still needs to be understood and tested. Review data access, validation, integrations and the way exceptions are handled. Include the people who will maintain the solution in that review.

04

Use a focused first release

Choose a bounded process and assess it with representative users. Record what the team learns about the experience, delivery approach and ongoing ownership. That evidence gives a stronger basis for wider adoption than a demonstration built around a few ideal examples.

Questions for your team.

  • Which task does the new capability make more useful?
  • How will the resulting application be validated?
  • Who will own the experience after the first release?
